Podcasts you need in your life right now
I'm always getting asked what podcasts are worth a listen. I love the way Podcasts can become an essential part of everyday life. So here are my favourites so you don't have to ponder...
Willkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome!
I’m continually being asked about what Podcasts I’m listening to so in this newsletter I’m giving you my inside track on Pods that make me tick. The ones I rely on. The ones I go back to time and time again.
So do take a good look, download and enjoy. These are perfect for walkies and escaping the world (which let’s face it we all need to do regularly right now).
So here goes…
THE NEWBIE: Miss Me? With Miquita Oliver and Lily Allen
Fresh off the block, these two best friends chat through their lives each week pulling apart new stories, relationships and life in the public eye with this Pod. Feels fresh, up to date and you’re able to get a good take on how these two are living their lives in 2024. They’re also very funny. Having hung out with the couple in the past, I’m expecting lots from this new series on BBC Sounds. Here’s the first episode link below.
THE NEW REGULAR: The Rest Is Entertainment with Richard Osman and Marina Hyde
I love a podcast where you’re able to properly get into the nitty gritty of all things entertainment and Richard and Marina really deliver. They know their stuff. I’ve been genuinely enthralled with their chats on AI, scripts, Hollywood and new TV shows across recent weeks. I used to sit alongside Marina way back when on the Sunday People when she was building her writing life from the ground up…she’s sharp, funny and her column in the Guardian is a total howl each week.
THE COMEDY KWEENS: My Therapist Ghosted Me with Vogue Williams and Joanne McNally
These two have been responsible for me literally snotting with laughter on my morning walk each week for the past couple of years. They delve into the big stories of the week and then cover the weird and the wonderful stories that we NEED to know about. Vogue and Joanne feel like the girls you go to the pub with, down a white claw or two and wake up in the morning hungover and immediately want to talk to and discover what the fuck happened across the night. I simply adore them.
THE SHOWBIZ ONE: Awards Chatter by The Hollywood Reporter with Scott Feinberg
If, like me, you love all things showbiz then this one is for you. Scott has literally talked to ALL the biggest stars about life before they were famous, how they got there, their biggest film moments and of course the award nominations and wins that come with them. He’s done Angelina, Barbra, Julia, Brad….the list goes on. It’s been my go-to for all deep-dive conversations with a little more of a serious edge and a big dollop of Hollywood. You learn so much about your favourite big names and if you’re discovering this one for the first time I’m very jealous. Alice Wilson introduced me to this one many moons ago and I’m been hooked ever since.
THE BIBLE: How to Fail with Elizabeth Day
The lessons we learn from failure and how it can ultimately lead to triumph. I’ve long been a fan of Elizabeth and everything she does. I just feel like with her you get the real deal. She’s genuine, she’s a proper journalist doing exceptional interviews and each episode you learn something – even if you don’t know the interviewee sitting down with Elizabeth. Again, if you’ve never listened to this one you’re in for a treat. She’s spoken to so many extraordinary people. Here’s one of my recent favourites with Dan Levy.
FOR THE NEWS: The News Agents with Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel and Lewis Goodall
If you’re anything like me, I can’t be arsed with newspapers at all now. I like the idea of getting a spoonful of the serious side of news that informs, educates and allows me to have a good idea of the world in 2024. The News Agents is essential listening and most importantly it doesn’t make me depressed from listening. I feel like I know what’s happening in conversations I would usually steer clear of…like politics around the globe. I usually zone out in articles about politics – but these three keep me enthralled.
THE CHAT WITH YOUR BEST PAL: Telling Everybody Everything with Katherine Ryan
Katherine Ryan is one funny bitch. She delves super close to the line, no subject is left unturned and she’s unfiltered without apology. I really like the way she just sits in front of the microphone, talks about what she’s into and generally just wants to have a talk with a nice community of people. It also has a great question and answers section that makes me feel really good about myself. The questions are WILD. Try it and enjoy a weekly catch up with this funny lady.
THE WELLNESS ONE: Happy Place with Fearne Cotton
I’ve known Fearne for a long time now – in fact last week I found a funny picture of us on the dancefloor of Raffles nightclub in Chelsea. I sent to her and we LOL’d. Happy Place has long been my go-to for open conversations about life and how to stay happy as we navigate tricky times. It’s upbeat, Fearne has completely made it her own and I’ve often stumbled across interviews here with people I have no love for and realised they’re amazing humans. It strips back the layers of the onion and I’ve taken so much from it. Here's one of my favourite episodes.
OTHER PODS I LOVE TO DIP IN AND OUT OF BELOW:
Crazy Sexy Food with Hannah Young
Davinia Taylor’s Hack Your Health
And Just Like That – The Writing Room
Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware
