More celebrity clangers to lighten the mood
My job was to meet them, pose with them and write about it in my showbiz columns. Here's what happened when I met these lovely lot.
Willkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome!
Another edition of celebrity clangers. I like looking back at all the people I managed to slip alongside for a snap when I was a showbiz hound.
Here’s the new edition for you to see. With a little write up on what was going on to boot.
ENJOY!
Liza Minelli, London. This was taken at the Nordoff Robbins Silver Clef lunch. I’ve met her a few times. Most notably, backstage at Hampton Court Palace after her gig at the festival. Hilariously, I went to the bathroom backstage and when I came out my mum was having a conversation with her. That was a “pinch me moment”.
Adele (yes, that really is her), Perez Hilton, Jodie Harsh and moi. I mean, what a motley crew we were. After this was taken at a Mulberry launch (I think) we went to a gay club in Soho. Adele had just had her hit with Chasing Pavements and the gays went made when we walked in. It looks like an episode of crazy hair wars to me.
Meeting Rihanna was awesome. Not to awesome is why I decided to pull a Lenny Kravitz and borrow his oversized scarf. I mean, what the truck.
Remember when Pamela Anderson used to wear make-up? Well, here’s a flashback to that phase. She looked like a panda in real life. Crazy eye make-up. She was super cute and super flirty. I was at the height of my floppy hair style. Sun drenched to ensure Pammy and I looked just perfect together.
Amy Winehouse and Kelly Osbourne were such great pals way back when. I think this was at the Elle Style Awards. Before Amy got sick and her music became legendary. Amy was so soft, kind and nervous of the industry then. We looked after her that night.
I guess my interview with Elle Macpherson went well. She was so playful. I remember we did this chat on some shitty couch in a corridor. At the end she properly wanted to have a giggle with our pictures together. After all, we had matching sunglasses. So why not!
I was actually at a friend’s 40th fancy dress party when I ran into Bear Grylls. It was a sit down dinner and he’s a cheeky one. I was wearing a crop top which read “I like Chelsea Boys”. After the meal he came up to me, patted my bulging belly and said “I see somebody’s had a feed”. Cheeky git.
This moment with Kylie at the Glamour Awards one year was big for me. I was dressed like the man from Del Monte in my white suit and walking across the event after the awards and heard this Aussie voice yell: “Oi, Dean.” I turned around and it was Kyles. I made me tingle knowing she knew who I was. After all, the first ever single I bought was Never Too Late. Showing me age there.
I was obsessed with Michelle Pfeiffer growing up. I’d order pictures of her in movies from some celebrity portraits catalogue and frame them on my wall. So meeting her at the Stardust premiere was a real moment. My first line to her was: “Just to say I’ve loved you since Grease 2.” She clenched my hand in a supportive manner and thanked me. ha. Sometimes you gotta speak the truth. Zinnoni forever.
More man from Del Monte action. I adore Abbey Clancy. She’s the real deal. This was at the Glamour Awards. I took her out to Boujis after the ceremony for a night of dancing. Her PR at the time said he was fine with it - providing she wasn’t papped going in or out. I called the manager and got us snuck in the back door. Mission accomplished. It ended with us in her Sanderson Hotel suite pissed as farts talking such shite.
A tale of three facemasks. Remember when these were a thing? Billy Porter, Adam Lambert and I at the first Brit Awards post-covid when things were a little weird to say the least. Love these boys. I’ve seen Billy on Broadway in Kinky Boots and Adam and I go way back.
There’s nothing like a Dame Joan Collins. I was dead happy to be dressed up to the nines for a meeting with Joan at a friend’s wedding many moons ago. She’s old school glamour. It will be a sad day when she leaves us. Not many people can exude glamour like her or walk into a room and captivate every single person’s attention.
That’s the end of this edition of celebrity clangers! Until next time, Kids.
I particularly tickled by your Never Too Late and Grease 2 references.
Love this. Everyone adores you. Keep think you should compile some of your stories and pics in a book! ❤️
