THE NEWBIE
Akira Back at the Mandarin Oriental, Mayfair
Akira Back has finally come to London. It was only a matter of time before this globally renowned Michelin-starred chef chose a site in the capital. It’s sleek, feels like you’re in an episode of Sex and the City (the good years) with expertly crafted Japanese food. There’s a stunning private dining experience too that needs to be tried to be believed. Chefs producing some of the best sushi and sashimi London currently offers.
SECRET DATE SPOT
Want to feel like you’re in an exciting French bistro in Paris with wondrous food and a stunning wine list and cocktails? Then this is for you. Nestled in Covent Garden, Cora Pearl ticks every box. Not too many tables, a constantly updated menu and not somewhere people are automatically flocking too. This is your perfect Friday date night location. It’s also the sister restaurant of Mayfair’s Kitty Fishers.
THE STAR SPOTTING HAVEN
Whether it’s Dame Joan in a booth, supermodel Arizona Muse in the bathrooms (where we can reveal there’s the perfect light for Instagram), Cush Jumbo having a business lunch or even the Hemsworth boys in their private dining room, Langan’s Brasserie is a proper head turner. It’s long been a staple of Mayfair society and it’s never been better since it’s refurb just over three years ago. Try the Asian-inspired tuna to start, a chicken kiev or bangers and mash for your main and save room for cheesecake. It’s all classic and so well done. I particularly like breakfast, a pre-dinner cocktail at the bar and even a late-night dinner post theatre or an event.
THE MEXICAN
This Mexican has made waves since opening just over a year ago. It feels totally special and most importantly authentic for lovers of true Mexican delights. And it’s no wonder, considering their female head chef, Ximena Gayosso, is actually from Mexico. That always helps. This restaurant has breathed life into the King’s Road culinary scene and is a favourite for both Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Poppy Delevingne and Zara Philips. You simple must try it.
THE MEMBERS CLUB
This club might be a tricky one for you to get into. But we had to mention - beg, borrow or steal your way into this newly renovated nightspot. Whereas the likes of Annabels (the sister club of George) is deemed mildly ghastly these days, George has an air of accessibility for all wanting to enjoy beautiful food, expertly crafted cocktails and some privacy around Mayfair. Also, it’s named after the cutest little sausage dog. Gorgey.
THE FUN AFTER DARK
Bagatelle has long been a party place - you know, crazy waiters, loud bop bop music and synonymous with the south of France. Now, they’re on the verge of a major relaunch and guests can enjoy all the excitement of crazy DJ nights as well as far superior food to what was once on offer. The chef there seems to have realised the food needs to do the talking. And for that we are thrilled. If you want fun and frolics, then this is for you. We just wish they did lunch.
THE ROAST DINNER SPOT
Parlour, Kensal / Ladbroke Grove
Anything chef Jesse Dunford Wood does is interesting to us. The element of fun is always injected into his menus - and not to mention the happiest staff in London. Expertly rich crafted roast dinners each Sunday. The “bit of everything” platter is not for the feint hearted, and his roast potatoes are like no other. Fancy a dessert? You have the have the crumble. Custard served in little glass milk bottles. Dreamy. You must book though - they get very busy for this roast.
THE MAJOR RETURN
There’s something so special about this venue which recently reopened after disappearing during covy-d times. Whether it’s a wondrous steak, a divine pud or their legendary ’snack’ Spider Crab Toast, Julie’s has this remarkable way of making you feel like you’ve been welcomed into some sort of glorious haven for life. Great staff, perfect lighting and even a teensy-weensy bar that you can sometimes slip into unannounced. It’s heaven.
THE A-LIST JAPANESE
My spies were here recently and saw Kate Moss whacking back Sake and ordering plenty of gorgeous sushi and sashimi. Made me salivate just hearing about it. This is the perfect ‘catch up with your girlfriend’ lunch location. Sexy for daytime and you can usually always bank on somebody you’re going to know being there. Not good if you’re having an affair.
THE SEXY ONE
Everything I’ve ever put in my mouth at this restaurant has been fucking awesome. End of. I don’t know if it’s because they’re renowned for most dishes being dripped in salty butter – but either way I don’t care. It’s sexy AF food. Every dish. The place makes your nipples go hard when you smell the kitchen. Yummers.
